Is there a way to replace it? Yes. Will it be replaced at no cost? It will depend on a number of things. To find out, try the following:

  1. Go to Apple’s Support page.
  2. Choose iPad > Apple Pencil > Repair or Replace Apple Pencil.
  3. Sign in with your Apple Account so they can check your warranty coverage automatically. If your Pencil is still under the standard one-year warranty or covered by AppleCare+, you’ll see replacement options right away.
  4. Select your issue — choose “Won’t connect or charge,” and Apple will guide you through diagnostic questions. If the problem points to a hardware issue, they’ll offer a mail-in replacement or book you a Genius Bar appointment. Mail-in replacement — if you choose this option, Apple ships you a replacement first (with a hold on your credit card until they receive the old Pencil). In-store swap — if you prefer face-to-face service, you can book a Genius Bar or Authorized Service Provider appointment through the same portal. Bring both your Pencil and iPad for testing — they’ll verify the fault before issuing a replacement.

If you purchased your Pencil at Best Buy recently (within their return window, typically 15–30 days), you can often exchange it directly there without going through Apple at all.
