Safari bookmarks in sidebar showing multiple lines of text

The bookmarks in the sidebar were single lines. For some reason, the changed to multiple lines. For example, the bookmark Delta Dental of Colorado now has a whole sentence underneath saying "Delta Dental of Colorado is a nonprofit dental benefits co...." I just want it to say Delta Dental of Colorado. How do I get it back to the way it was. I tried Apple Support Chat. He thought maybe the text was too big, but I don't think that's the problem. The text is the same size it has always been. When I was typing out another question for him, he left. Here's a screenshot.

your tagline shows you are using macOS Sequoia. is that correct?

on Tahoe, there is a simple menu to revert the sidebar back to a view that you are familiar with. but if you cannot (or don't want to) upgrade to Tahoe, you still have a couple options.

the first option, you can lay a new sequoia install over the old one without completely erasing and reinstalling sequoia. afterwards, you will have sequoia with safari 18.6.

and the other option, you may want to look at 6x6's reply in this discussion. if you are comfortable using terminal, their suggestion fixes things for those of us on sequoia with safari 26.0.1.

please note, if you are going to try the terminal commands, you need to grant terminal full disk access. go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access to do so.

Yep, using macOS Sequoia 15.7.2.

Several questions: What made my bookmarks view change?

Will my Mac (3.6 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i3) support Tahoe?

Your first option doesn't make sense to me (probably my fault) because I think I have the latest version of Sequoia, so why would I install a new Sequoia over it?

I don't know anything about using "terminal".

I'm OK working with computers, but I am approaching 80.

there was an option to update safari that was available on it's own. you must have updated from an earlier sequoia In which the safari update was bundled in system update. easy to miss. I missed it myself and had the messed up bookmarks sidebar for a day or two before being turned on to those two suggestions.

sorry, no. the only intel iMac that qualifies for Tahoe is the 2020 27inch iMac.

you can go to the App Store to "get" and then install sequoia. after reinstalling Sequoia over the old one, you will see the safari 18.6 that you had prior to the update. but to reiterate, DO NOT erase your current Sequoia. just install it over the old one.

it's not that hard. just open terminal (found in Applications > Utilities) and then copy and paste each command into terminal and press your "return" key on your keyboard after entering each command. do the two commands separately from each other.

don't sell yourself short. :) a lot of us here are retirees.
