Macbook connectivity issues

After updating my M1 MacBook Pro 13 to 26.1, I can't connect my iPad 9th gen or iPhone 14 pro via bluetooth. All devices are updated to 26.1.

Both the phone and iPad say the MacBook is not compatible.

Any ideas on a fix?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Thank you for your reply. I may have not described my problem accurately. I used sidecar frequently and since upgrading to 26.1 it doesnt work anymore. After searching for the issue I discovered that with 26.1 it wont work with MacBook made before 2021 and my MacBook is a 2020. I am disappointed but I’m not going to replace a machine that in all other respects does everything I need. Not happy.

There is no fix for this as nothing is broken.

Neither the iPad nor the iPhone will "pair" with a Mac using Bluetooth in the traditional sense as you might pair headphones to a device. This is expected behavior as it has never been a feature of these devices.

If you wish to sync these devices, then the connection between i-devices and the Mac must be made with a data cable, either USB to Lightning or USB to USB-C depending on the device.

You can also use iCloud sync between these devices if you sign into iCloud on each and enable the iCloud sync in Settings. You will use your Apple Account/ID to sign in each device. You will use the same Apple Account/ID on all devices.
