Cannot Show The Sidebar On The Finder App


Finder - Menu Bar - View - Show Sidebar -


either

A) Unclickable

or

B) Does not work when you click It.


How can I show the side bar?

If after rebooting as D.I. Johnson suggests, it doesn't fix the problem, try booting into safemode and then back to normal and see if it works. Safemode runs some system diagnostics and fixes things it finds wrong.


Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support


If that doesn't work, try this:


In Finder, press Command-Shift-G and paste this

~/Library/Preferences/


Delete: com.apple.finder.plist


Finder will create a new clean .plist file when you launch it.

As Barney explained: if you hide the toolbar, the sidebar disappears as well.


Note: hiding the toolbar makes Finder windows behave just like traditional "spatial" Finder from "classic" Mac OS: if you double-click on a folder inside such a window, it opens not in the same window, but a new one; and there is a 1-1 correspondence between windows and folders.
