If after rebooting as D.I. Johnson suggests, it doesn't fix the problem, try booting into safemode and then back to normal and see if it works. Safemode runs some system diagnostics and fixes things it finds wrong.
Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support
If that doesn't work, try this:
In Finder, press Command-Shift-G and paste this
~/Library/Preferences/
Delete: com.apple.finder.plist
Finder will create a new clean .plist file when you launch it.

In the View Menu, do you have a Show Toolbar command enabled? Those two are inexplicably linked.
The Hide Toolbar is disabled if you have multiple tabs in the window, but for a single view window, you can hide or show the Toolbar. With the Toolbar hidden, Sidebar gets hidden, too.
As Barney explained: if you hide the toolbar, the sidebar disappears as well.
Note: hiding the toolbar makes Finder windows behave just like traditional "spatial" Finder from "classic" Mac OS: if you double-click on a folder inside such a window, it opens not in the same window, but a new one; and there is a 1-1 correspondence between windows and folders.

Strange.
"Finder - Menu Bar - View - Show Toolbar"
I clicked Show Toolbar and this issue is somehow fixed.
Try rebooting the computer?
👍🏽
Yes I restarted Macbook.
It did NOT fix It.
???
Method 1) Restart does not work.
Method 2) Safe Mode does not work.
Method 3) Deleting the file you had mentioned does not work.
???

Strange.
Maybe. I just call it “how it has worked forever.”
