A couple problems with Apple Discussions

I got a voting limit for no reason, despite having posted many many threads and helping with a few of them and using Apple Discussions for 4 years. (I've heard that it's applied to just new users, but evidently I'm affected as well?)

Also, why can't I add a title any more? Why is there a blurb saying "A title will be generated based on your post"? That's stupid.

You can add a Title still when posting a question. You first post your comments and a title will automatically be created and you have the option to change the title to whatever you want before posting. At least that is how it works for me when posting a question.

A voting limit prevents the least effective form of support by simply upvoting and downvoting every comment. You may also find that the limit is only for a short period of time to prevent the shotgun approach to the upvotes/downvotes. The best way to provide support is to engage with the question to offer solutions that will help the OP resolve a problem.

I participate a ton. I don't usually provide answers, but I initiate a lot of posts (I have had hundreds of issues with Mac and iOS that I couldn't find answers to online) and I reply to others' posts very frequently. I may only have 31 points, but points have meant basically nothing to me until now since I didn't think I'd need them. If the system actually showed how many messages I've sent instead of a silly points number, that number would likely multiply about a hundredfold.

In the last month, you've participated in three threads. I'm not judging you. But the system apparently doesn't count reading threads as part of how it determines "newness." As Mac Jim ID explained, there is a system in place to prevent gaming the voting. We can only guess exactly how that's determined.

The Hosts have never given specifics about how the limits are determined. My understanding is, though, that it's not just a question of time but also of the amount of participation. Thirty-one points over four years would indicate to me that you don't participate much.

Another possibility is that the forum software was just being its usual flaky self. Try logging out and logging back in.

I've never experienced that. It could also be an automated function based on your level of participation but I don't know.

You are only addressing other users here. Our knowledge of the inner workings of the forums is limited. You can send an email to this address: communityaccounts@apple.com. I doubt they will give you more than a generic answer for your first question. You may have more luck with the second.
