Unlocking Sprint iPhone 5?

I bought an iPhone 5 for funsies on ebay, but it uses sprint and I cant get it to activate with T-Mobile cards or anything. I also can't ask for an unlock by T-Mobile because I obviously don't have the original sprint account and I don't have a T-Mobile account and also can't figure out how to ask apple to unlock it

If the phone is carrier-locked, only the carrier who holds the lock can release it – if they choose to do so. There is no point in asking Apple to unlock the phone.

"Apple can't unlock your iPhone for use with a different carrier. Only your current carrier can unlock your iPhone."

Note that many carriers have permanently shut down 2G and 3G networks, and that the iPhone 5 only supports a very small number of 4G (LTE) bands. Thus there is no guarantee that the iPhone 5 will be useful as a cell phone even if you can convince T-Mobile/Sprint to unlock it.

oh also Nathan said to ask the original owner which might not even be possible since the situation is like a friend of a friend so I only know the seller not the owner and I asked a different person and I was thinking that it might have been a part of when they mass unlocked sprint devices during the T-Mobile/Sprint merge so they just said to bring the device to a store and ask

However, the idea that “Carrier B” could release a lock applied by “Carrier A” would seem to defeat the primary purpose of a Carrier Lock.

In this case, Carrier B (T-Mobile) and Carrier A (Sprint) may now be one and the same, due to a 2020 corporate merger.

You told us that it is locked to Sprint (T-Mobile now), and that you couldn't ask for it to be unlocked by T-Mobile (implying that you didn't even try). What made you think you could activate service with Spectrum while it was still carrier-locked to Sprint/T-Mobile?
