Force upgrading older devices due to newer apps requirements

So do I have to buy new iPad or new IPhone every time some app I need and use does not work on older apple device . I cannot upgrade older devices to meet the app requirement.

Your point about tech obsolescence is common to everyone.


Right, wrong, or indifferent, it’s just an economic fact of life in our modern “tech industry.”


That said, buying the latest apple device will yield a surprisingly long service life.


Example:


I purchased an iPhone Xs new — directly from Apple — just over 7-years ago. (Early Oct 2018)


It has been in continuous - fairly heavy - use ever since; first as a “primary” phone for me; and then with a family member.


While it’s true that it can now only run iOS 18, I fully expect that it will remain the “primary” phone for the current user for another year or so; until Fall ‘26.


85 months (and still counting) of “full-time” service from a small, constantly in-use, and widely-traveled consumer device might not seem something to complain about.
