Google used to provide a File Transfer App for Mac to transfer files from most Android devices, but stopped making it a while ago.
These days, you need a 3rd party app that can enable the option. Things like MacDroid, or OpenMTP.
MacDroid can be found in the Mac App Store, and is free to download and use for transfers from an Android device to Mac. Transfers from Mac to the Android will require the subscription to the Pro version.
