Wireless CarPlay uses Wi-Fi + Bluetooth simultaneously:
- Bluetooth = initial handshake
- Wi-Fi = full data and screen-sharing connection
When you connect to wireless CarPlay, your iPhone automatically joins the car’s Wi-Fi hotspot signal, which is not a real internet network.
The iPhone then falsely thinks:
“I’m on Wi-Fi, so I should stop using mobile data.”
This causes:
- No map loading
- No internet for apps
- No traffic updates
- No music streaming
- No 5G/4G data
- No Siri online responses
This is why Wi-Fi Assist does NOT help — because the Wi-Fi (CarPlay link) never "fails," even though it has no internet.
