There's no way to disable group conversations entirely, but you can either mute them or choose to leave the conversation. You can mute by swiping left on the conversation then tap the purple bell on the main page of your conversations. To leave you must open the thread then tap the name in the top then Leave This Conversation. Note that you can't leave SMS/MMS conversations. And you always have the option of sending the message individually to each person.
