There have been three generations of 24” Apple Silicon iMacs: M1, M3, M4. (Apple never released M2 iMacs, and M5 chips have not shown up in iMacs yet.)

You probably want a M3-based or M4-based one with at least 16 GB of RAM. Adobe recommends 16 GB or more for most of their applications, and you cannot expand RAM after purchase.

Note also that there may be variants with two expansion ports and variants with four. On those with only two expansion ports, those ports can fill quickly.

Apple has lots of refurbished silicon iMacs. If you're looking to save some money consider a new Mac Mini M4 or a refurbished one. The problem with refurbished Mac from Apple is you may be locked into a small SSD boot drive consider the following: a 10 Core Mac Mini M4 with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD ($1084) with a 32" LG 4k monitor ($331) from Amazon.com)  is $1415 which is $541 less than a similarly configured new 24" iMac ($1956)  re 07/2025. Keep your keyboard and mouse from your current Mac for use with the Mini.  You can save even more $$ by betting a 27" monitor without speakers. The Mini has only one speaker.

I got the above Mini with a 32" LG 4K monitor w/speakers for only $60 more than the 27" (didn't know the Mini had a speaker).  There are many monitors available in 27" size on up for $100 to $500 depending on what features you want.  The monitor prices are before tariffs.

Just some food for thought.
