Since I updated my ATV 4k to ios 26, it will not stay connected to my Sonos Beam. Before the update, the Beam was a default audio option. It no longer is listed as an option there but is an option when I am watching programming. It will not stay connected if I switch channels or apps.
I have now realized my device Apple tv or Sonos keeps switching to airplay instead of staying with the hdmi cable connected in an earc port.
To have the Apple TV box use the HDMI connection, please set the Apple TV box to output audio to “TV speakers“, and also set the TV to output audio to the soundbar.
Any direct selection of the soundbar in the Apple TV audio output settings will result in AirPlay or Bluetooth being used temporarily for the audio connection.

LOLOL I have been overthinking this as have the poor Sonos folks. They were extremely anxious to help and I wasted a bunch of their time. Before the ios26 upgrade, I selected the Beam in ATV setup. That changed so I. kept trying to complicate it by selecting Beam as I was watching...and apparently caused the airplay to start as you point out.

my sonos beam (2g) works 100% the same as prior tvOS 26 connected by hdmi arc to my LG tv
so I guess if it was me then I would disable it all and try to set it up from scratch
