How to transfer cellular service from old iPhone to new one on Rogers?

I am in the process of purchasing a new iPhone directly from Apple, either via the Apple Store App or going to my local Apple Store (Eaton Centre).

My question is regarding the transfer to the new iPhone on our service provider (eg Rogers). When I get the new iPhone, do I remove the SIM card from the old iPhone, insert it into the new iPhone, and have the service provider recognize the new iphone, or do I need to contact Rogers to have it transferred?

Second, do you recommend going to the Apple Store to do this, or can it be done at home via the Apple Store App? Both options are available to me, I'd like your opinion on which one you'd recommend. Thanks

Hi lkrupp...

Thanks for the reply... based on it, it sounds like it might be easier to go to a Rogers Store to do the phone upgrade, as this way they can also do the SIM card (either physical or eSIM). And when I leave, I have a working phone right away instead of having to first go to Apple and then go to Rogers, which, for me, adds extra complication.

Thanks

All iPhone 17 models sold in the U.S. and Canada are eSIM only now, no physical SIM slot. You should contact Rogers about moving your service to the new iPhone.

While iPhone 16 is still sold, only the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16e are available in the Apple Store. They have a single SIM slot and one eSIM.

Apple continues to move froward in eliminating physical SIM slots in favor of eSIM wherever it can.
