How do I update my 2017 iMac to the latest macOS version?

I currently have a 2017 iMac computer. I’m just trying to figure out if it’s currently up-to-date with the newest software or is my updates pretty much over with I have right now 12.7.6 currently running and I had heard that 13 might be a way to go, but I’m just trying to figure out cause I’m confused and not the best at keeping up-to-date on the newest software updates out there

A 2017 iMac can run Ventura. It should be available in Software Update. If not, you can get it from the Apple Store.

From what I found, Intel based Macs that are supported for macOS Tahoe 26 are only from 2020 and newer. However, if you do have a supported Mac, you can follow these steps:

Open Settings (Apple Menu > System Settings…)
Click General
Click Software Update
You’ll have to scroll down to Upgrade to macOS Tahoe and click it
Click Upgrade Now or Upgrade Tonight (takes 15-45 minutes, I’d say)

A 2017 iMac does not support Tahoe, Sequoia or Sonoma.
