How do I update my 2017 iMac to the latest macOS version?

I currently have a 2017 iMac computer. I’m just trying to figure out if it’s currently up-to-date with the newest software or is my updates pretty much over with I have right now 12.7.6 currently running and I had heard that 13 might be a way to go, but I’m just trying to figure out cause I’m confused and not the best at keeping up-to-date on the newest software updates out there

From what I found, Intel based Macs that are supported for macOS Tahoe 26 are only from 2020 and newer. However, if you do have a supported Mac, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings (Apple Menu > System Settings…)
  2. Click General
  3. Click Software Update
  4. You’ll have to scroll down to Upgrade to macOS Tahoe and click it
  5. Click Upgrade Now or Upgrade Tonight (takes 15-45 minutes, I’d say)
