Logic Pro hangs while loading plugins

Project hangs while loading Plugins

This is a very complex issue. I have been working in Logic on an important Symphony for about 7 months. Everything has been fine, until my 2TB SSD “Plugin Library” Drive failed. The Drive is corrupted and cannot be recovered.

A new 8TB drive was purchased and all libraries successfully downloaded from Spitfire and N.I.

The Logic project I have been working on for 7 months now “hangs” while booting, requiring “Force Quit".

Called Apple Care and asked for Logic Support. The tech had me to load the project with no 3rd Party Plugins

Project successfully loaded, but without 3rd Party Plugins (useless to me). Plugin Manager in this state will not rescan or load any 3rd party plugins. Apple said there was nothing further they could do for me, blaming the problem on third party plugins.

The next day, at least 6 hours with plugin support. Unfortunately, project still will not load. All plugins shown to be installed correctly.

Here are significant discoveries revealed during trouble shooting;

1) Loading a new Logic project, ALL libraries are available and can be loaded and used. This demonstrates that this is Logic bug, and has nothing to do with the 3rd party plugins

2) If the Spitfire Logic Template is loaded first, and then attempt to load the problem Project from inside the app, it loads ALL the way through Spitfire BBCSO, and NI Kontact plugins, but then hangs at the very end while trying to Load Spitfire Cinematic Percussion. Today, a new download of Spitfire Cinematic Percussion library was attempted, to no avail. But as I have mentioned previously, the Cinematic Percussion loads fine and is playable in a new logic program (or the Spitfire Template)

3) If I try to load my Symphonic Project "without” loading the BBCSO Template first, it hangs almost immediately.

The thought of losing 7 months of work makes me sick to my stomach.

Many thanks in advance for help,

Craig Sibley

The "Surgical Removal" (Fastest Fix)

The project is likely hanging because the specific instance of the Cinematic Percussion plugin inside your project is still pointing to a Volume ID (UUID) of the old 2TB drive, and it enters an infinite loop trying to find it.

  1. Enter Safe Mode: Quit Logic. Hold Control and launch Logic. Select "Launch without Audio Units".
  2. Open the Problem Project: It should load (as you found previously).
  3. The Surgery:
    • Open the Mixer (X).
    • Locate the channel strips that use Spitfire Cinematic Percussion.
    • Remove the plugin completely from those slots (Click the plugin slot > select "No Plugin"). Do not just bypass it; remove it.
    • Optional: If you have many instances, you can just remove the specific ones that cause the hang (likely the Percussion ones you identified).
  1. Save a Copy: Go to File > Save As and name it Symphony_RESCUE.
  2. Restart & Rebuild:
    • Quit Logic completely.
    • Launch Logic Normally (do not hold Control).
    • Open Symphony_RESCUE.
    • It should now load perfectly because the "poisoned" plugin reference is gone.
    • Final Step: Manually re-add the Spitfire Cinematic Percussion plugin to those tracks. Since your system is healthy, it will load a fresh instance connected to your new 8TB drive.
