How do I get my itunes from 2018 ma (all recorded from cds no drm) onto a 2020 M1 mac air: I have tried thumb drives which say there

"iTunes" was an application which Apple morphed into the Music app several years ago. It isn't what the music is called.

If you mean you have the music folder from an actual iTunes library and now want to import it into Music, that may be very difficult unless you are running a version of the Music app from just after Apple made the change. I had an old iTunes library and when I jumped to using Sequoia I had to rebuild the entire thing from scratch. I could use my old music files but playlists, etc. were gone. From what I can tell, Apple only supported transitioning from iTunes to Music at the time it actually happened.
