Re: Why can’t I change my photo for messages

It's not easy to guess the reason, and we don't have much to go on,

Could be anything like:

✽ you first need to learn how to change the photos as what you tried doesn't work

✽ your iPhone's software may need updating to the newest version

✽ it could be a software "bug" (but then everyone else would likely be complaining too)

✽ There may be "ScreenTime" or "parental controls" on your iPhone, prevnting some things.

✽ you may be forgetting to "save" your changes

✽ or many more possible reasons ... Eg: It may help.to Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

Wondering what you have already tried with no success:

You mght want to try the set-up method below:

It is from the iOS26 article Set up Messages on iPhone - Apple Support

(OR

Just tap Edit > Name and Photo ... to change an existing photo, as it says if you scroll to the bottom)

Please remember to sav your changes..

Eg rticle says:

  1. Go to the Messages app  on your iPhone.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • At the top of the conversation list, tap Edit, then tap Set Up Name & Photo.
    • Swipe up to the top of the conversation list, then tap Share Your Name & Photo.
  1. Choose how you want to be represented, scroll down, then turn on Name and Photo Sharing.
  2. Tap Share Automatically, then choose one of the following:
    • Contacts Only: Anyone who is a saved contact receives the option of using the name and image you chose when they communicate with you.
    • Always Ask: You decide to share your name and photo as you communicate with each contact.
  1. Tap  to save your changes.

To change these settings after you set them up, tap Edit, then tap Name & Photo.

Note: Your name and photo may not appear as expected when you send messages to recipients who are using non-Apple devices."
