Compressor stucks on a Motion render

MBP M1 Max, 64Go, Tahoe 26.2 | Compressor 4.11.1 | Motion 5.11

Can't render a small animation from Motion through Compressor since a while 8(

Compressor stucks on a Compressor "The task doesn’t include any output" alert (La tâche n'inclut aucune sortie - in french).

No usefull explanation nowhere to be found: what is that "output"... where is it?

I've used Motion, Final Cut and Compressor since many years, and have never met that sort of problem! =8/

PLEASE HEEEEELP!

Yes, a QT... But also tried others from a Motion project.
Just made a quick test from a FinalCut project and it completed it as asked... Really seems to be a Compressor issue...

Are you saying that exporting a Quicktime movie directly from Motion works, but Send to Compressor of the

same Motion project gives the error you mentioned?

I have to say that I had not even known "Send to Compressor" was a thing in Motion, and I also never use it with Final Cut Pro. I either export a master file, and then, if needed, make other versions in Compressor; or export directly from Final Cut Pro using Compressor Settings. This has always worked well.

You could try the same out of Motion:

Add a Destination, select "Compressor Presets" and choose what you want.

Then you can use the Compressor "engine" without even launching the Compressor application.

Through Compressor: (any chosen format) the processing stops around 0:03:18 (no progress bar) with Error=-9074

Directly from Motion: (most formats fail) rendered successfully, but only in Sequence mode. Results finally in a . usable motion!

Yet, I still don't understand the behaviour I'm facing with Compressor... I never met such a problem before!

This is realy puzzeling, and might lead me in hard troubles in a near futur...

I take it that this happens with one specific Motion project, right?

Or does it happen with any project?

If the latter, I'd try deleting both Motion and Compressor preferences: To delete preferences, hold down command and option while starting the application and click Delete Custom Settings. The application will start with default settings. Adjust the settings, and see how it works now.

If the former, is there anything peculiar about that project?

Would it be possible to share, so we can test? It's ok to share just the project without any external media, if applicable.

You could send the Motion project to yourself using wetransfer, for example, and post the link here.

(It is quite possible that the link is deleted soon after, but we will still get it in the mail notification).

Sorry, I didn't answered to all points of your questionning...

I have to go through the suggested procedures, too...

  1. I tried older (well rendered) files, and the same problem happened.
  2. While starting Motion with command and option pressed, I can't see any "Delete Custom Settings". Where is it supposed to show up?
  3. As friends and people will come and go around at my home all these days till new year's here, I probably won't be able to have a deeper look into the subject.

I hope you'll agree to come back to this post next year... ;)

Meanwhile, I thank you for your attention! Also, accept my greatings and best wishes!

Regarding 2: You need to launch Motion and immediately press and hold the Command and Option keys.

A dialog should appear, it is unmissable. It looks like the image below. If you don't get it, it is probably because you took a little too long to press the keys.

(I usually start the application directly from Spotlight: command-space, type Mot and press enter; and nearly at the same time press and hold the two keys).

If you click Delete, the custom preferences (now called, confusingly enough, "Settings") will be deleted, and a new default is created.

Best wishes to you too, and we can address the issue again later, no problem!
