Your phone will tell you that it is up to date if it is running the latest version of iOS that is compatible with it.

Since your phone is running the latest release of iOS 15 (15.8.5), and is telling you that it is up to date, we can infer that it must be an iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, SE (1st generation), 7 or 7 Plus. Whichever one of those it is, it is too old to update to iOS 16, 17, or 18, let alone iOS 26. (Why would you even ask about iOS 26 after you saw that your phone did not get the others?)

About iOS 15 Updates - Apple Support

As to what you can do if you want iOS 26, your only options are to

  • live without iOS 26, or
  • get a much newer iPhone

iPhone 11-series phones are the oldest ones compatible with iOS 26, but for them, this represents their sixth major iOS update, which makes it unlikely they will receive future iOS updates. It would make more sense to look at a 16-series phone, 17-series phone, or iPhone Air that is likely to have years of updates ahead of it.
