Spotlight settings missing/blank in System Settings, macOS Sequoia

Recently set up an M4 Mac mini and after a few weeks updated to macOS 15.7.3. I discovered the System Setting for Spotlight are blank in my primary account.

What has not helped:

I created a new user account, and it does not have this problem, but I've spent weeks setting up this user account. Is there any hope for fixing this?

I see a similar problem reported on Sonoma here, but nothing in that thread helped.

What has not helped:
Force quit System Settings
• Restart Mac
• Safe boot (blank in Safe and further normal restart)
• Reinstall macOS from Recovery Mode.
Move to Desktop these folders (one by one) from /Library/Group\ Containers/ group.com.apple.spotlight and com.apple.systempreferences.cache (this was recommended by Linc at https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/479963/system-settings-window-fails-to-load• )

Odd to say the least

Was the machine recently purchased directly from Apple or some other Apple Authorized Retailers ?

We ask because, most recent editions of this machine would have probably come with macOS 26 Tahoe not macOS 15 Sequoia

Having said that.

Spotlight setting in System Setting is missing in Normal and Safe Mode and even after a reinstallation would normally put matters right

Though " I created a new user account, and it does not have this problem "

This could be a good indicator there is something specific in the Original User Account that causing this issue

What follows is optional, though it may help identify where the issue is coming from

Run the application from within the problematic User Account

Download the Application Etrecheck  ( External Link ) directly from the Developer.

This is a Diagnostic Tool that makes no changes to the computer.

It makes a coherent and readable inventory of both the Hardware and Software used on the computer

The application is free or paid for added features.

Hello and thank you for your reply.

Yes, it was purchased directly from Apple in Nov 2025. But I'm not sure why you ask. Are you suggesting there could be a problem with the macOS installed if it were NOT purchased from Apple? Hmm. Surely any such problems would not survive a recovery mode re-install of macOS...

Meanwhile, I thought more about @leroydouglas's reply (linked above) which mentioned disk repair in Safe Boot. I booted into Recovery and ran Disk Utility's First Aid on all the snapshots as described in this recently updated support article:

How to repair a Mac storage device with Disk Utility - Apple Support

After rebooting normally, the problem was gone. I don't think First Aid has ever fixed a problem for me in more than 20 years.... wow.
