Icloud sync is activating by itself whenever updates happen

I cloud sync keeps messing up my documents and desktop

It's so annoying. Everytime this things messed up I can't use the files I am working on which I directly access in Documents or Desktop folder

It’s very difficult to understand your question.

  • What have you tried?
  • What have you seen?
  • What worked?
  • What failed?
  • What error messages appeared?
  • What applications are involved?
  • Are you referring to iCloud Drive files?
  • Are you using iCloud Desktop and Documents?
  • Are you using Collaboration?
  • Are other people involved?
  • What devices are involved?
  • What operating system (names and versions) are involved?

I am talking about iCloud sync. I usually turn it off since it's been happening to me. Whenever I update my mac version (MacOS 26) it turns the sync back on.

Yesterday when I came back to continue working with my files in documents, my code editor can't find the files where it normally located. My projects are usually located in Documents/www/...

Problem was when I decide to turn off the sync it deleted all the files instead of just leaving it there which doesn't make sense. Why would it delete my local files when I turn off the sync?

I don't understand what's the logic behind it. since originally files are created in local disk not cloud

My Desktop files where gone too which I needed to re-download again. Both downloads are very slow since my files contains git history which are small files making the download take forever.

I guess you’re referring to having turned Desktop & Documents on and off in iCloud Drive using a Mac.

This explains how to use that feature.

The files were relocated to iCloud when you turned on the Desktop & Documents folder setting.
