Calendar not showing up after a year

None of my calendar events from a year ago or later show up on my iphone calendar. So frustrating since I had medical appointments and other schedules entered. I can see in on my laptop when I log into iCloud, but the whole point of my phone was not having to be tied down to my laptop. Anyone know a work around? Thanks in advance!
