iCloud sharing photos between devices

I have now uploaded my 17,500 photos to ICloud to reduce storage space on my iPhone. Hooray!!!!

However I now see they have copied onto my iPad device as well.

I would like to keep photos taken on the iPhone just on the iPhone (and in iCloud), and the photos taken on the iPad just on the iPad (and in iCloud). Not duplicated.

make sense?

How is do I fix this????

Disable the Photo Library on the iPad. This means iPad photos will NOT be synced to iCloud.

Syncing from device to iCloud is tied to an Apple ID.

You could also, not recommended, create a new Apple ID for the iPad and sync its photos independently from your iPhone.
