Turning off Voice Over on Apple TV HD

When we could not scroll down we could not turn off voice over. I had a man that knows electronics and after 1-1/2 hours gave up for the evening.
I decided to try and at 80 years of age solved the problem.
Instead of swiping down to move down I swept across and it scrolled down where I could turn off voice over and I have Apple TV working very well.
