How to use General/Setup for CarPlay to add Waze and Google Maps apps?

Can't setup CarPlay for Waze and Google Maps. Running iOS 13.4 on iPhone 5. The Setup window on the iPhone for CarPlay does not show Waze or Google Maps apps as selections to add to the display. I've deleted the Waze and Google Maps apps and reloaded the latest versions but still "no joy". Anyone have any suggestions as to how to resolve this issue?

Thanks to all that have responded. I think the issue is that the iPhone5 can not by updated to anything above iOS 10.3.4. It appears that to run CarPlay with Waze or Google Maps that your iPhone has to be running at least iOS 12 or above.

iOS 13.4 ? Probably you meant iOS 12.4.

You have also not mentioned, which Car you own for which the CarPlay is required.

What CarPlay does

CarPlay takes the things that you want to do with your iPhone while driving and puts them on your car's built-in display. When you connect your iPhone to CarPlay, you can get turn-by-turn directions, make calls, send and receive messages, listen to music, and more. CarPlay uses the contacts on your iPhone to help you make calls, send texts, and find destinations.

CarPlay uses Siri Voice Control, so you can ask for what you want while you're driving — allowing you to stay focused on the road. CarPlay even works with the built-in controls in your car — like a touchscreen, knob, or button.

You need to make sure you have updated both the Waze and Google Maps apps so that you have the versions that support CarPlay. So double check you have updated those apps and you should be good to go.

Unless, for whatever reason, Waze and/or Google Maps is not compatible with an iPhone 5. If you are truly running iOS 12.4 then that is not the problem but it could be an issue with the iPhone you are using.

CarPlay compatible apps just "show up" in CarPlay unless you specifically configure them not to in Settings > General > CarPlay > <your car>
