IPOD id and password

I have an Ipod touch 6th generation. The user id that displays on the screen is not identified by apple as a valid id. I want to get into it to install software, but can't because it keeps asking for id and password. I don't remember the password that it was set up under. Every option on the settings menu asks me to put in the password for the "invalid" id name that displays on the screen.

How can I find the id and password for the device or how can I reset it to create a new setup and id/password for it?
