external hard drive partition

I have a 4TB WD My Passport for Mac external hard drive connected to a Mac mini. Disk Utility show that it has one partition (which I didn’t create). I can’t figure out how to either remove this partition or adjust its size. The functions normally used to partition a hard drive appear to be grayed out, and changes can’t be applied. Could this partition be a non-adjustable design of this WD hard drive?

Highlight the 1T partition and see if the - un-hides. If the - un-hides, click on the - and see if the Apply un-hides. Keep in mind that adding the 1T partition back to the 3T partition, will erase the data on the 1T partition

If not, then you will have to copy everything on both partitions to another drive and then re-format the drive back to one 4T partition. Keep in mind that reformatting the drive, will erase all of the data on the drive.
