Do I need to purchase an entire bundle package for the new Apple updated operating system? Last time we purchased work, excel and powerpoint, it was usable on various computers.
How should I proceed to utilize my word and excel, which I need today for work!

If you subscribe to the subscription version of Office it can be used on up to 5 devices. You need to go to the Microsoft web site to register which devices are using the apps. If you change a device, then you would unregister it and register the new device. If you purchase the home and student version it is good for use on only one device, and must still be registered as noted above
Microsoft Office versions 2016 (updated), 2019, and 365 all are compatible with Catalina.
