can my 2012 MacBook air screen share with a 2019

I am used to screen sharing with my elderly father's computer. He just got a new MacBook air and I can no longer screen share. My computer is a MacBook Air 2012 with Catalina 10.15.2 He is up to date as well. Is the issue my old MacBook? Is there anyway to make me be able to screen share with him? I've made sure his computer would be accessible. Thanks for any advice.
