Audio streaming via Apple TV

Is there a way to see the Apple TV menu without connecting it to a TV or monitor?

I've connected an old Apple TV to my home stereo to stream from my iTunes library via AirPlay. It works fine, but every time I turn the system off, the Apple TV shuts down and needs to be re-connected with Airplay, which requires a screen.

I've used the Apple TV apps for various Mac and IOS devices, but these are little more than remote simulators and are of no use without a connected screen. It would be fantastic if there were an app that would allow you to scan your media library and use the Apple TV menu to make selections from it on your phone, iPad or Mac.

I've considered buying a small HDMI screen to leave atop the stereo, but then I'd have to cross the room to see it, which reminds how thankful I am that I never fully gave up on vinyl.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Claus
