lost macbook air

I lost my macbook air and it says offline when i go to the find my app. It is off therefore it won't play the sound until I have found it. Is there any other way i could locate it?

Sadly no, because when a Mac is "off" it's truly "off". It can and will do absolutely nothing until someone turns it on again and it connects to a wireless network. In the meantime you'll have to search for it in the same way you'd search for a lost set of keys.
