Hi - Is anyone able to confirm if Apple TV 3rd gen is compatible with Mac OS Catalina as I’m having trouble accessing my home video library through the Apple TV app on my Apple TV 3rd Generation device? Just wanted confirmation before potentially having to fork out for the Apple TV 4th Gen device.

Yes, Home Sharing works with a Mac running macOS Catalina and an Apple TV (3rd generation). It works pretty much the same on later models Apple TV.
You will then need to use the Computers app on the Apple TV to access the Home Sharing content, as shared through the library of the Apple TV app on the Mac.
