Not all screenshots are shown in desktop

When I screen capture and immediately drag the preview image to somewhere, it does not save to my desktop. Is there a way to make it save to the desktop regardless? Is there a way to find all my screenshots?

In Catalina, when you take a screenshot, the preview image show for a few second in the lower righthand corner. If you interact with it during that time, it will automatically open the image using the MarkUp tool. If you close it using the X in the upper left, it should just save it to desktop instantly. If you don't interact with the preview it should also just save to the desktop after the preview image goes away.
