There are other ways to view content from the Apple TV app and Apple TV+ on a TV screen, so you do not strictly “need” an Apple TV set-top box. Alternatively, you could have a TV that supports the Apple TV app as one of its smart apps. Or you could use the Roku or Fire TV streaming devices.
