Apple TV Remote Wont Connect to Wifi Netowrk

I downloaded the apple TV remote to my iphone 7. When I open the app, it says ADD APPLE TV and under that "Don't see what you're looking for? Make sure you're on the same wi-fi network as your apple TV. My apple TV is connected and I can see the "settings" Icon on the TV, but the remote will not connect to the Apple TV.


How do I get the Apple TV and the remote to cooperate and talk to each other?

A physical Apple Remote is required to setup the Remote application.
