Text Messages disappear in MacOS 10.15.6 before I can enter the recipient.

Whenever I try to compose a new text message in the Messages app in MacOS 10.15.6 ( it has been happening a while but I am not certain which update was installed when it began) it disappears before I am able to enter a recipient. I have to open a new message, then RAPIDLY enter a recipient or it just disappears again. I finally had enough. Any ideas?

Boot into Safe Mode (How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support) by booting with the Shift key held down and check there to see if the problem persists.  Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing some system cache cleaning, volume verifying and directory repairing.
