I need to connect a second monitor to my iMac for my home office, but not sure what type of equipment I need, and compatibility of monitors. Any advice?

the X being the thunderbolt 1/2 or 3 and connector in one end and what the monitor has in terms of connectors in the other

like DVI, hdmi, or displayport
