How to connect to other computers in my same network

I have an iMac and MacBook Pro that I need to connect with each other. I'm able to enter the password etc. and it SHOWS the other computer and the folders on it but it will not access the files. I've checked the settings and it shows that all users can read and write. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Turn on File Sharing on both computers. Set the folders you wish to access on both computers as Shared using Get Info (Command-I on selected folders.) See Set up file sharing on Mac - Apple Support.
