This seems to be a USB formatting issue. Before going any further, reformatting your USB will delete any information on it, so please make sure you have at least one backup.
The USB, depending on formatting, breaks up the storage into smaller partitions, so even if you have a 16GB USB, the max file size will be 4GB file size. You can change this by reformatting to Mac OS Extended Journaled. Note that this is a Mac specific format if that is of concern to you.
To format: Use your spotlight search (CMD + Spacebar) > Disk Utility > Under External, click your flash drive > Erase (You will lose any information on the drive) > MacOS Extended (Journaled).
