Macbook Pro 2017 Screen black

My 2017 Macbook Pro that I used mainly as a desktop and treated with utmost care has a black screen. It started developing a "white stage light effect" along the bottom edge of the screen about a week ago, then went black. The local technician told me this is a common problem with Macbook Pro 2016-18.

Any insight or suggestions on how this can be repaired?

Check to see if your laptop qualifies for this free Apple backlight repair program:

https://support.apple.com/13-inch-macbook-pro-display-backlight-service


If your laptop does not qualify, then you will need to pay to have the Display replaced.


You can have Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider examine your laptop to provide you with an estimate for the repair. In some regions it is possible to mail the laptop to Apple for the repair. Click on the "Get Support" link at the top right of this page to see the options for your region.


FYI, here is the current list of the publicly acknowledged free repair programs for various Apple products (some products have multiple programs):
