Apple Pencil (gen 1) connecting to iPad mini but input not recognised

Hi all

My daughter's having problems with her Apple Pencil (gen 1) and her iPad mini (gen 5).

She updated iPadOS to 14.3 this morning. Since then, the Pencil connects via Bluetooth, but iPad won't recognise any form of input (no interaction with UI elements, and no scribbles). It's definitely connected, because the settings reports it as connected and as charging. See below.

We've tried a new nib (that came with the Pencil), made sure the nib is on tightly, unpaired and the paired the Pencil again, and rebooting the device.

Does anyone have any suggestions, or is anyone experiencing something similar after the 14.3 update?

Thanks for these links @LotusPilot. We've tried the recommendations we've no success. Before we explore the replacement option, just wanted to check no one else has had this problem with iPadOS 14.3.
