Maci Mini to use iMac screen

I want to occasionally use a 2014 Mac Mini using the screen of a 2020 27" iMac, I am confused as to what cable is necessary to achieve this.

The Mac Mini was originally hooked up to TV screen using an HDMI to HDMI cable, which will not do for the 2020 iMac.

I want to use the 34bit older software on the Mac Mini occasionally using the iMac screen, but I will use the 64bit 27" iMac most of the time. So switching between the two seamlessly would be desirable.

"You can connect any of these older iMac models to another Mac from 2019 or earlier for use as an external display."

It looks like I am buggered, I checked out the Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support but that seems to also disqualify one of my two units. I do have an older 2008 20" iMac but that may be too old if I reading the article correctly.

You can't use a 2020 iMac as a display.
