iMac 2015 as second screen for 2018 MacBook Air

Can I use the iMac 2015 as a second screen for my 2018 MacBook Air?

I have tried using a conversion from mini port to HDMI and from MacBook Air to HDMI and connecting both using an HDMI cable and it does not seem to work.

Please suggest if I can use something else for this to work.

No, you cannot use that 2015 iMac as a display. Target Display mode is not supported on the 2015 iMac.

Only a few Macs could be used like this. The feature is no longer supported.

From the document linked above:

"Note: Target Display Mode isn’t supported on iMac models with Retina display. Only iMac (27-inch, Late 2009), iMac (27-inch, Mid 2010), and iMac (Mid 2011 to Mid 2014) support Target Display Mode."
