Airport Extreme roaming network question

My home network consists of an AirPort Extreme 802.11ac (6th gen) connected via about 30 feet of Cat 6 cable to an AirPort Extreme 802.11n (5th Gen). The n is set to bridge mode. The wireless network name, security, and password on each base station are exactly the same. The ac is connected to a Netgear modem and cable ISP at 400mbps down. The ac serves up full 400mbps down via Wi-Fi. But the n only provides 200mbps down. Shouldn’t the n do 400mbps?

The Max link speed on the AC wireless is 1300Mbps.. and the absolute best real world throughput speed you can get from wireless (being half duplex) is half that speed.. so around 600Mbps. On a good day with a tail wind going downhill.

So your Max speed real world on N wireless which is 450Mbps link speed .. so.. 200Mbps is dead right.

Ethernet has no slow down.. It is full duplex 1Gbps. And is the same on all gigabit equipped switches and routers.. plug from gigabit to gigabit router to switch or another router multiple times.. still comes out gigabit.. hence why ethernet is and will remain superior to wireless.

AirPort Extreme 802.11n (5th Gen)

All Airports except Gen1 have gigabit ethernet ports.

So you should be able to get full 400Mbps out of the Airport Extreme.. no problems at all.
