after I boot up computer, I get different pop-ups (mail, contacts,notes,maps,music,) its a pain. I need to stop them from coming on

System Preferences >> Users & Groups >> Your Account name and look for" Login Items " and note Padlock lower Left needs to be unlocked with computer password to make changes. Back in Login Items and remove the Applications one does not what to launch at Startup

Sounds like you have set apps to launch on start up.
