Desktop shortcuts appear on my other Macs. How do I disable this behavior?

When I add a shortcut to the desktop of my MacBook Pro, it nearly immediately also appears on my Mac mini desktop. I assume that they are sharing desktops on a common iCloud account. How do I disable this behavior while keeping both computers connected to a common iCloud account?

In System Preferences->AppleID->iCloud->iCloud Drive, Options...

uncheck Desktop & Documents Folders.

The only problem is if you want to share your Documents

folder, you can't disable sharing desktops.

There are several useful features that may be shared among your Apple products.

• Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch - Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204681

The feature you describe appears to relate to "Handoff" with reference in above article.

{.Note there are additional articles with linked details to each of these Continuity items.}

• Use Handoff to continue tasks on your other devices - Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209455

Some of these features inter-relate, so it helps to become familiar with their usage.

Good luck & happy computing!

Could be some other aspect of Continuity, or sharing across macOS.

The features in 'Universal Clipboard' could copy and paste as such.

As these different-named features sometimes work together and may

do so with slight difference depending on your iOS/macOS devices

they can use Handoff among others, where applicable.

You may have to study aspects of iCloud & ways it can work.

An older iPad may work and support later features described under

the banner Continuity; or AirDrop etc. I've various vintages of gear;

& outside of official supported descriptions, I've made things work.

Take care & good luck!
