The forced-restart is an opening troubleshooting step.

As described - and now having attempted a forced-restart without improvement - your next step is to restore your iPad to Factory Settings. Upon conclusion, you’ll be able to restore your data from your iCloud or iTunes backup.

The restore to factory settings will load a fresh copy of the most recent version of iOS/iPadOS supported by your iPad.

Due to the system architecture of iOS/iPadOS, unless jailbroken (don’t go there!), your iPad is not susceptible to traditional malware infection per-se. However, as with all computer systems, there are still vulnerabilities and exploits to which you remain vulnerable.

As described, a Virus is very unlikely to be the cause of erratic behaviour. As a first step, a forced-restart of the iPad may be helpful:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.
