How can I upgrade from OS X 10.10.5 to ?

I have made attempts to upgrade to macOS 10.13.1 High Sierra or macOS Mojave 10.14 to be able to install an app I need for a recently purchased printer. Both information pages list the version I have now as compatible for upgrade, but neither will install. Even macOS Big Sur says it is compatible with OS X 19.9 or later and it too, will not install. Please advise. Thank you.

FWIW, the version of macOS you can upgrade to is determined by the model year of your Mac. The last 17" MacBook Pro was in Late 2011. If that's what you have it can be upgraded to High Sierra 10.13.6. If it is a 2009 or earlier model, it can only be upgraded to El Capitan 10.11.6.
