Remove Bing from Mac

Can anyone advise me how to remove Bing search engine from iMac?. I am using Opera browser on osx 10.15.7. I do not seem to be able to remove Bing by using Opera preferences. Thanks for any help.

Perhaps the activity is a browser redirect, in this instance from your Opera

search default re-set or redirected, to use "Bing". ~ IF so, that likely is not an

official Bing search page. Usually called a Virus, it's not. A category of these

each uses a different name; as do online instructions to remove them.

While this example of instructions to 'remove bing redirect virus' seems OK..

..But instead of using whatever their 'problematic removal software' may be;

that point, I'd have and use MalwareBytes for Mac. Since it's been able to

remove the bulk of various maladies, adware, malware, etc and the part

that still works after their Free Trial will still help clear junk from Macs.

[Following site is only good for the 'Manual removal' part of its instructions]

Download nothing from the linked page below:

You may have to check into 'how to remove a browser redirect.' Various

constructs appear in 'duckduckgo' search. Most of have basic instructions

+ these try to also get you to download some cleaner or mackeeper junk.

An OK partial set 'manual removal' instructions (similar details in many) says:

  1. Start Opera browser.
  2. Go to Tools > Extensions > Manage Extensions.
  3. Find SearchModule, Search Protection, Bing.Vc, BingProtect

or other suspicious extension.

4. Click Uninstall button.

5. Also remove other suspicious extensions from the list.

Reset browsers settings (homepage, default search)

[Bing installs defective search engine that can be used to hijack your

browsers. You are instructed to reset your browsers homepage, new-

tab, and search engine, to default values.]

Instead to finish up, after manual-removal use MWB:

• Malwarebytes for Mac | download link + instructions

An afterword from T.Reed, innovator of early adwaremedic/malwarebytes for mac:

Run Malwarebytes for Mac + read above article.

~ Then later, restart into Safe mode, see..

• How to use Safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

..takes awhile (15/20min) ~ & Restart Mac normally, to exit Safe mode.

Good Luck & Happy Trails!
