family member passed away, need to reset ipad

my mother in law passed away a few years ago.

now father in law needs ipad

have no idea what or whos email was used to register device

or the password.

how do we proceed?

not a stolen device , just a passed family member

Without the Apple ID and Password of the person who set up the iPad, your Mother, you will only have a couple of possible ways to access the device. Apple will help if you can produce the original receipt clearly showing the serial number. There is another way described in this link...
